This is a town centre pub.

Named after the pioneering surgeon of the 1300's, this is Wetherspoon's contribution to the Newark pub scene.

Characterless and corporate, it carries the usual 'spoons fayre, occasionally offering a guest sourced from a local micro.

In keeping with other Wetherspoon's pubs, it annoyingly refuses to turn pump clips round when the beer is unavailable making the selection routine a real chore - 'Sorry that's not available', etc. Tasters are given on request.

Although the pub displays the Cask Marque plaque, the quality here is disappointingly variable, from 'OK' to undrinkable. The staff do not seem to know anything about the beer they are selling.

Like its neighbour, the Hobgoblin, the seating outside makes for a pleasant afternoon's people-watching on sunny days.
