Newark Beer Festival is about more than drinking. A quality pint is usually enjoyed more if it's accompanied by a foot tapping tune or two and we have that perfect mix on the Riverside Park venue this May.
Our talent scouts spend many nights scouring the land's hot and sweaty venues in an attempt to find the right mix for washing down the ale and cider. Every year they bring us an entertaining mix of musical merriment.
The last weekend in May 2008 will be another cracking time for music lovers of many persuasions.
Please note the list and timings may be subject to last minute changes due to
circumstances outside our control.
For those of you who prefer to sample their beers without music in the air, we have designated Friday afternoon as a music-free session.
You'll be able to enjoy your tipple in relative serenity until at least 5 o'clock!

SHAAN INDIAN
RESTARANT
Kicking off this year's festival is three-piece Celtic rock band Cold
Overture, consisting of fiddle player Mark, Bassist Andrew and guitarist
Paul.
These guys will have you jigging and dancing in no time at all as they work their magic on several traditional pieces mixed in with more commercial songs, such as Whiskey in the Jar, made famous by the mighty Thin Lizzy.
If you fail to tap your feet to this lot, we can only assume you are dead from the toes upwards!

BOOBA DUST

BUILDING CENTRE
Formed quite recently after Kenny Lavish, a jazz double bass player and Pete Tattersall, a blues guitarist met quite by accident in a blues club in Chicago. They talked about forming a Blues duo but nothing materialised until Ken turned up at Pete’s studio to do some recording.
It was then that they rehearsed a few numbers and decided that the time was right to get Booba Dust up and running. This combination of backgrounds and influences forms a great basis for the Blues.

This will be this bands 3rd appearance at the festival, such is the impression made previously. A local trio of Robert Haynes (guitar/lead vocals), Ian Dobbs (bass/vocals) and Darren Riley (saxophone/alto sax), they will ease you through an hour or so of blues/rock versions of songs by the likes of Eric Clapton, JJ Cale, Thin Lizzy to name just a few.
They are a busy working band around the local area, gigging regularly with a healthy local following. This is a chance to see the band in a bigger environment, giving them a greater exposure, something most people would agree they deserve. Quality at this level doesn't come along everyday so the 'Suspects' make a perfect warm up to tonight’s headliner.

LARRY MILLER

CASTLE & FALCON - Newark CAMRA Pub of the Year
It is with great pleasure that we can confirm the return of Larry Miller and his band to headline this year's Beer Festival. Larry last appeared in 2006, receiving a tremendous reception from the crowd as he worked his way through his repertoire of blues and rock, plus a couple of tasty covers.

Those of you there that night could never forget his blistering encore of Parisian Walkways, Larry is out on the road this year in support of his new CD ”Outlaw Blues” so expect some new songs to be aired along with some of the old favourites.

SMEATON'S LAKES
Caravan and camp site.
To close this year's festival are two former members of Magnus school band Flatliners, who have appeared twice before.
Singer Dan Spendlow and guitarist Mikey Gibson have decided to go it alone after the demise of their former band and play a wide range of music to suit all tastes. Dan, who also plays keyboards is currently working on his first solo album whilst studying music performance and technology A level.
Influenced very much by the likes of Snow Patrol, Counting Crows and The Kooks this should make for an impressive finale the this years festival.
