Newark CAMRA’s Pub of the Year 2011, The Prince Rupert has come a close runner-up in the Nottinghamshire round of the CAMRA National POTY. Full results:

1st: Crown, Beeston, Nottingham

2nd: Prince Rupert, Newark

3rd: Forest Lodge, Edwinstowe, Mansfield & Ashfield

4th: Golden Fleece, Upper Broughton, Vale of Belvoir

Just Beer Micropub was nominated for a certificate of merit by Newark CAMRA member Dave Moulds.
The presentation will take place at Just Beer Micropub on Monday 30th May at 3pm.

POTY Presentation

Saturday March 19th 2011 saw this year’s Newark CAMRA pub of the year presentation at the Prince Rupert. Landlord Tony was certainly emotional during his acceptance speech!

To celebrate, five real ales and house wines were offered at £2 until 5pm and to soak it all up, pizzas were distributed on a regular basis.

We also took the opportunity to collect for our chosen charity, Beaumond House Hospice. £138 was collected, which hosts Tony and Heidi YAle very kindly boosted with a £100 contribution!

The Love Boat Captains entertained us from 3.00pm which got Tony and Heidi,as well as some of the regulars, dancing and joining in with the tambourine.

Congratulations to Tony and Heidi and all of their team on winning this award, and many thanks for giving a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon.

We are pleased to announce that the winner of Newark CAMRA branch Pub of the Year for 2010 is The Hearty Goodfellow at Southwell (for pub details go here). Apparently on being told the news Steve and Alison were well chuffed, to say the least. The whole pub broke out into spontaneous applause and the messengers got a free beer – Blue Monkey I’m told and in fine form. Such are the perks of being Chairman.

The presentation will be made on Saturday February 20th at about 1pm. Make a note in your diary to attend and we’ll also send a reminder nearer the time to mailing list members.

First Merits Awarded

The AGM last night was well attended. Before the boring formal stuff there were some presentations made. Firstly, a cheque for £1,100 was given to MacMillan Cancer Support, this year’s nominated charity.

Then four awards: ‘Certificates of Merit’ were presented to Kenny Munro of Milestone Brewery, Rob Neil of Maypole Brewery, Paul Goodman, landlord of the Vine in Newark and Steve Hussey, landlord of the Hearty Goodfellow in Southwell.

This is the first time these awards have been made and are to note the winner’s service to real ale and the CAMRA ideal. Congratulations to all four.

The official stuff was then carried out and the existing committee re-elected (no surprise there then!). Afterwards, landlord Paul brought out Chili and jacket spuds and there was much socialising.

A great night out.
