Return of the Wheatsheaf

There was good news for local drinkers at the beginning of July with the reopening of the Wheatsheaf at Dry Doddington. The pub had been closed for eighteen months leaving the village, quite literally, dry.

New owners, Bob & Josie Dyer, need no introduction, having previously owned the Welby Arms at Allington, where they built up a reputation for quality food as well as being frequent winners of Grantham CAMRA’s ‘Country Pub of the Year’.

The Wheatsheaf, part of which dates back to the 14th Century, has been extensively refurbished and now boasts separate smoking and non-smoking lounges, a dining area and an outside patio area. There is an extensive menu of quality, home-cooked food but the drinker is still very much part of this delightful pub.

There are three regular cask beers; John Smith’s, Taylor Landlord and Marston’s Pedigree, plus a rotating guest beer, usually from a local micro. On this visit it was Brewster’s Lola – very nice, too!

The Wheatsheaf is well worth a visit.
