| Alan Gill, proprietor of
Broadstone Brewery and Landlord of the Memory Lane at
Sutton-on-Trent has changed the pub's name back to its
original one of the
Lord Nelson.
The unveiling of the new swinging sign, which took place on
15th April, was a well attended affair at which many wore
nautical clothing to get into the spirit of things (or maybe
it was just to get the free drink offered as an incentive to
dress-up!). Of course, Alan made an Admirable (pun
intended) effort, and dressed as the Lord himself whilst his
wife Olga was also in full costume.
Four beers were on the bar, three with nautical themes;
Broadstone Two Water Grog and England Expects plus Friggin' in the Riggin' from the Nelson Brewing Co. being
the other two. The fourth beer was Tanglefoot from the
Badger Brewery. Alan also plans to brew a new house
beer, Nelson's Finest.
Commendably, Alan has introduced lined, over-sized 23oz
glasses, guaranteeing a full pint every time.
There was seafood platter and hog roast available all
afternoon and the pub was throbbing with locals enjoying
themselves. This
writer left at six, but the party was still going strong and
I suspect it went on for several more hours!
Congratulations to Alan and his team and best of luck
from Newark CAMRA for the future.
