… So what is the answer? Boils down to personal choice
and a good pair of shoes not trainers!
With so many trendy pubs popping up around the county, a
rising tendency with these would appear to be charging for
admittance. Do these places not realise that people walk
away rather than pay the entrance fee of £2 or £3,
especially during normal opening hours?
So which is more important; a few pounds in the door till or
more money over the bar? I know what I would do. By all
means have dress codes (although my partner would disagree),
and to be honest I have come across several thugs in suits
and shoes! There is nothing wrong in going out smartly
dressed, or wearing trainers; lets face it - a stylish pair
can set you back £100/£150.
So what is all the fuss about? Do these trendy places
attract a superior/different/affluent clientele? Looking
round these places…no… they just attract people who are
after a late drink, in a place not full of young ‘kids’,
perhaps a bit of music, or a quick dance and who don’t want
to be out late in a club paying over-inflated prices.

Steve Denver, a spokesperson from
Luminar
Leisure Ltd. Said “Chicago Rock provide bars, food,
dancing, music and are open till late and they charge an
entrance fee on certain nights after a designated time. This
is to take into account the running cost of the venue,
staffing, entertainment and a late licence.”
Do certain pub companies all follow the same line of thinking?
Why would the running cost suddenly go up after 10pm? Who
knows!?Luminar Leisure Ltd were kind enough to chat over
the phone and to be fair to them they are not the only company
to have an entrance fee policy, smaller independent companies
are doing the same. So watch out, one may have appeared in a
town like yours!
