Things are really moving at
Springhead
Brewery. They have just completed a six month expansion plan
to increase brewing capacity and storage facilities that has
cost almost £250,000
New brewing plant was sourced that increases brewing length
from 10 to 50 Brewers Barrels.
The response to Springhead beers has been so good over the
last two years that they have brewing has been at capacity
for at least 12 months. Head Brewer Shirley Reynolds has
brewed five days per week and sometimes twice a day – a
marathon day starting at 5 am and finishing at 9 pm
Shirley is passionate about the quality of her beer and has
put much effort into improving and maintaining high
standards rather than constantly inventing new beers. It was
this concern for quality that lead Shirley to insist that
any new equipment had to be installed alongside the existing
plant at least to start with. |

As Shirley explains “I was not prepared to
lose the old kit until I knew that the beers from the new
brewery were every bit as good as the existing beers. The
results we have achieved are excellent. I am really pleased
with the quality not to mention the fact that I can now brew
in one day what used to take me all week. We are now
significantly increasing the distribution of Springhead beer
and will be able to introduce new customers across the UK to
the delights of Roaring Meg”.
But don’t just take Shirley’s word for it. Springhead
apparently forced a few unfortunate Newark CAMRA members to
down several pints of the new brew recently (it’s a dirty
job – but someone had to do it !). They Pronounced the
beers as very good (albeit with a slight slurring of their
speech!).
